Dental Implant Restorations

Dental implant restoration done at Reich Dental Center in Smyrna,GA

Tooth loss is a big deal. The loss of even just one tooth, even if it is out of sight when you smile, can pose several significant complications. This is because the teeth do more than just provide you with a beautiful smile. At Reich Dental Center, we can replace a missing tooth with dental implants. Dental implants are a Restorative Dentistry procedure.

Effects of Tooth Loss

Losing a tooth can have several significant effects on not only your mouth but your quality of life as well. Effects of tooth loss include:
•  Difficulty biting and chewing food, which can lead to trouble with proper digestion and overall nutrition.
•  Speech complications, such as a lisp.
•  An increased risk for tooth decay, gum disease, and tooth damage.
•  Even if a missing tooth is not visible when you smile, your smile can be affected over time. Tooth loss leads to bone loss in the jaw. The bone grows weaker and changes shape. This causes your healthy teeth to begin to shift out of alignment, which can not only affect your smile but can lead to issues such as bruxism and TMJ as well.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is one of the best options for replacing missing teeth. It is a treatment that uses a titanium post to provide support for a replacement crown. The post is surgically implanted into your jaw. During the recovery process, your bone fuses to the post in a natural process called osseointegration. This process stabilizes the post in your jaw, turning it into a strong, secure replacement root.

Replacing Your Missing Tooth

Placing a dental implant requires a surgical procedure. Before undergoing surgery, you will first have a CBCT scan, which will help the doctor performing your implant surgery by giving an in-depth look at your jawbone to determine optimal implant placement. The scan will also show whether there is a need for a bone graft or other surgery to ensure your new implant is successful. The implant procedure is typically done under a local anesthetic. Sedation can also be provided for patients who are anxious, fearful or have trouble relaxing or sitting still. Once you have fully healed from implant surgery, a process that can take several months, the process for placing your final restoration begins. First, the temporary tooth is taken off and an abutment, or connector, is placed on the implant post. We then take an impression of your mouth. The impression is sent to our dental lab, where it is used to bring your permanent dental restoration to life. Once it is complete, we check it for fit and bite. If no adjustments are necessary, the tooth is screwed into place.

The Benefits of Single Tooth Implants

Single tooth implants provide several significant benefits.
•  The crown is made from ceramic. The material can be stained to match the exact color of your real teeth. It also reflects light just like natural tooth enamel. This helps to perfectly restore the quality of your smile and your confidence.
•  The implant feels and functions just like the rest of your teeth. Your biting, chewing, and speaking abilities are perfectly restored.
•  The implant is incredibly comfortable. The crown is supported by the post rather than your adjacent teeth.
•  The implant post stimulates your jawbone just like the roots of your real teeth. This stops and prevents bone loss in your jaw.
•  We do not need to alter your adjacent teeth in any way.

Losing a tooth out of sight when you smile might not seem like a big deal at the time, but it can have several significant effects.
