Dental Cleaning
Roswell, GA

Man receiving dental cleaning at Reich Dental Center – Roswell in Roswell, GA.Everyone knows they should brush and floss their teeth daily. Then why is it important to have periodic dental checkups, as well?

Oral health care is one of the most underestimated aspects of health care in general. Most people believe that the mouth is completely separate from the rest of the body. However, infection from your mouth can spread to other parts of your body too.

A biannual dental checkup is advised because there may be problem areas in your mouth that are invisible to the naked eye or do not cause pain. If they remain undetected, they can become bigger and would require costly treatments.

Why Do We Need A Dental Cleaning?

Infection-causing bacterial plaque is one of the biggest sources of diseases in your mouth, including gum disease. Despite the fact that you may brush and floss your teeth meticulously at home, plaque could still build up and harden into calculus. This calculus cannot be removed by simple brushing and becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. If left untreated, the bacteria will spread to your teeth and gums and cause infection.

Your body sees the infection as a foreign invader and will try to fight if off. As a result, your immune system will respond to the attack with inflamed and bleeding gums. It may kill off some of the infection, but it will also cost you your soft tissue and bone structure.

If the infection is severe, the damage becomes irreversible and you may lose your teeth. This can be prevented by a simple cleaning appointment at Reich Dental Center – Roswell, which takes just 30 to 60 minutes twice a year.

What Does A Dental Cleaning Involve

Teeth cleaning is a simple and non-invasive process. It involves various steps including:
•  Oral Examination: We will examine the condition of your teeth and mouth to determine if you have any significant oral health issues. We can also check for signs of oral cancer.
•  Removal of Tartar: Since you are bound to have some buildup of tartar, we will remove this first with fine-pointed instruments called scalers. The scalers will scrape off any stubborn calculus clinging to your teeth and reduce the risk of infection. We may need to perform a deep gum cleaning for those with periodontal disease.
•  Polishing with Toothpaste: After tartar has been removed, we will use a small revolving brush to buff your teeth. We will use abrasive toothpaste to polish and smoothen your teeth, and make it difficult for bacteria to attach to the surface again.
•  Flossing: A professional flossing will get rid of debris created during the dental cleaning as well as remove food particles from deep between your teeth.
•  Fluoride Treatment: We may also recommend you a fluoride treatment as a final step. We will apply a flavored fluoride-based gel to your teeth and let it sit for several minutes. This can effectively protect your teeth for several months.

Brushing and flossing your teeth at home is extremely important, but it is still not enough for you to maintain optimal oral health. To ensure your mouth remains healthy, do not miss your dental cleaning appointments every six months. To schedule a visit, call us at 770-992-3353 today.
