Veneers are very thin custom-fitted pieces of porcelain that are designed to match your natural teeth. Veneers have strength and resilience similar to your natural enamel, according to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. They are bonded to the surface of your teeth to improve your smile.

Uses Of Dental Veneers

If you want to make cosmetic changes to your smile, dental veneers are a simple but very effective alternative. Dental veneers can be used to correct issues like:
•  Teeth with intrinsic stains that do not respond to bleaching treatments.
•  Worn or chipped teeth.
•  Misshapen or misaligned teeth.
•  Uneven gaps between the front teeth.

At Reich Dental Center – Roswell, veneers are made of porcelain material. can recommend the type of veneers that are best for you. You can also choose other cosmetic procedures, such as teeth whitening, to go along with your veneers and really enhance the complete aesthetic of your smile.

Dental Veneer Procedure

Getting a dental veneer typically requires at least two visits to Reich Dental Center – Roswell.

Before starting your procedure, you will need to tell us exactly the kind of results you are trying to achieve. During your oral examination, we will check your teeth to determine whether getting veneers is the right option for you. We may also have to take a few digital x-rays and will need to take impressions and molds of your mouth.

To prepare your tooth to receive a veneer, we will need to remove about half a millimeter of enamel from the surface of your tooth, which is about as thick as your veneer. Impressions and models of your mouth will be taken and sent to a dental lab where your veneer will be constructed. It generally takes at least two weeks for your veneer to come back from the lab.

Before the veneer is permanently adhered to your tooth, we will first place it on your tooth to see if it fits or if the color needs to be adjusted. Next, we will clean, polish, and etch your tooth which will allow the dental cement to bond tightly to the surface. Once your veneer is perfectly positioned on the tooth, we may use a curing light to harden the cement quickly.

The last step involves removing off any excess cement, making the final adjustments to the veneer and checking your bite.
We may also recommend a follow-up visit in the coming weeks to determine whether your gums are responding well to the veneer treatment.

Benefits of Dental Veneers

Dental veneers have several benefits:
•  Veneers offer a conservative and non-invasive approach to changing your tooth’s shape and color and do not require erosion of large amounts of enamel, as is needed for crown placement.
•  They are very natural-looking and mimic the light-reflecting properties of enamel.
•  They are quite strong and durable.
•  Veneers are made of porcelain which is a more stain-resistant material than bonding material.

Cons of Dental Veneers

Some downsides of dental veneers are:
•  A procedure to get veneers is irreversible since enamel needs to be removed from your tooth surface. As a result, your tooth will always need to be protected with restorative work.
•  Veneers are custom-fitted and hence are more expensive than dental bonding.
•  Although rare, veneers can crack or fall off. To avoid this, do not chew on pencils and ice and do not bite your fingernails.
•  People who clench their teeth or who suffer from bruxism are not good candidates for veneers.
•  Teeth with veneers can still suffer from decay. If that happens, the entire tooth may need to be covered with a dental crown.

If you take care to maintain good oral hygiene and improve your lifestyle habits, your veneers can last for seven to 15 years. If you are interested in getting veneers, call us now at 770-992-3353 to schedule an appointment with us today.
