Facts About Canker Sores

Posted on 7/4/2022 by Office
Facts About Canker SoresCanker sores are painful patches in one's mouth, inhibiting one's usual eating habits. The appearance of canker sores is attributed to winter flu or depression and is white. We articulate some of the facts associated with canker sores.

What Causes Canker Sores?

Experts haven't found the exact cause of canker sores but associate their appearance with stress or fatigue. Furthermore, some scientists believe factors such as allergies, use of tobacco products or deficiency in crucial vitamins and minerals all fuel the appearance of canker sores. Some common causes of canker sores include a hormonal imbalance in women, especially during menstruation, dental procedures injuries or sensitivity to certain foodstuffs such as coffee or eggs.

Is Cold Sore the Same as Canker Sore?

While most people confuse between the two, there exist significant differences. Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus and are contagious, unlike canker sores. Furthermore, their appearance is quite different since cold sores appear outside the mouth, mainly around the lips or underneath the chin, while canker sores appear in the mouth.

How Long Do Canker Sores Last?

Canker sores may heal after a couple of days or for about a week on their own hence do not necessarily require treatment. You should feel progressive healing impacts as they disappear. However, if you experience frequent canker sores that heal after two weeks, it's wise to seek medical attention for further examinations.

Should I be Worried by Their Recurrent Appearance?

Canker sores may reappear months or even years after they heal, which is natural. However, as highlighted above, you should worry if they appear quite often and take long before disappearing.
