What You Should Know About Oral Cancer

Posted on 11/8/2021 by Office
What You Should Know About Oral CancerOral cancer has two categories, one appears inside the oral cavity and the other in the oropharynx. Here we will answer some of the most frequently asked questions about oral cancer, and how our dentists can help you with it.

Where Can Oral Cancer Show Up?

Your oral cavity includes your cheeks, your lips, your gums, part of your tongue, and the hard palate, which is part of the roof of your mouth. Your throat, that is, the pharynx, is where the soft palate begins, including the back of your tongue and the base of your tongue. In all these places our professionals will look for signs of oral cancer.

What Are The Symptoms of Oral Cancer?

It is important that you know the signs and symptoms of oral cancer, and that you go to your visits with our dentists regularly, and in case you present any of these. The most common signs are irritation in the oral cavity or throat that does not disappear in two weeks, red patches, white patches, pain or loss of sensitivity in the lips, cheeks or tongue, any type of lump or thickening, difficulty chewing, swallowing or talk and any change in the alignment of your bite.

Some patients report feeling that they have something stuck in their throat, numbness, or changes in their voice. If you have any of these symptoms, inform our dentists to carry out the necessary studies.

What Happens We Find Something Suspicious?

Keep calm. We will have no way of knowing immediately if what we observe has carcinogenic properties, so we must do a diagnostic protocol. We will reexamine you a couple of weeks later to see the progress, and thus create the best diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategy. Visit us to have the best care of our professionals and learn more about oral cancer!
